Semester Final :)

Man’s Best Friend!

I had a lot of fun with this assignment. Over the past week and a half I have been gathering pictures of all the special people and animals in my life. I know in some of the pictures I went for high contrast and intense blacks despite the fact that the man who will be grading these does not like that affect, but I think it gives depth and life to the pictures. I was originally going to do portraits and when I began taking pictures of my mom (the picture bellow) our dog jumped in and I decided to go in a different direction. Just a heads up… I lost one of my contact sheets during the upload. I have been in Twitchell’s photography class for four years now and it is sad that this will be my last assignment to turn in to him. I had a great run though! (:

I went to your other blog first on accident (Because Twitchell apparently has this year and last years up. Oh well) and I was like “I didn’t think flowers were out already” and then I realized the date…
    Anyways!

I think you did a good job with this photo series.
I really enjoy the image of the women and the dog, I’m pretty sure the pictures with the two people with the dogs are your strongest images because you named it “man’s best friend,” and the interaction with humans is what makes the dogs “man’s best friend.”
However, you did do an excellent job and I think you could’ve improved it a little bit, but it is still an amazing series.

  2. I like that you added your family in having fun with the pets. It shows their expressions and the animals look happy too. On some of them the flash kind of caught my eye. Good job.

I really like the faces on the first photo it made me laugh. They are a tiny bit too over exposed though. Other then that all of the dogs faces are interesting you did a great job at capturing there “expressions”.

This is a great collection of images that will be nice to have in the future. I know that when I look back at photos of my family and former pets it always brings a smile to my face.

As you state, I am not a huge fan of making the blacks ultra black, because then some of the detail in the shadow area is lost, and if we lost detail, well, part of the photo is lost.

My favorite and the strongest image of the bunch is the guy kneeling down with the dogs- the lighting in it is wonderful. Window light has such a great quality to it, can almost never go wrong with it.

Geez…… you are leaving. Well, don’t give up the camera. Get out and shoot for fun, shoot for you. I know that while I was working on my Master’s in Photography it got to the point where it was not much fun. Since I have finished, I have picked up a little point and shoot digital and started shooting for fun again. Trying not to worry about composition and all that crazy stuff, just capturing moments of my family that I would otherwise not have. Shoot for fun. Take lots of photos so you can have them years down the road, you WILL NOT regret it. I promise you. Be good, be safe, stop by and visit if you get bored.
